Gorgeous calligraphy canvas print by Nawaf Soliman as part of the Cities in the Heart exhibit.

Numbered giclée on wood-stretched canvas

900 meters above the Sea of Galilee lies the city of Safad. In Safad, al-Zahir Baybars built his giant red mosque. The churches, synagogues, and mosques were built close to each other, and therefore, people of all religions lived in close proximity to each other.

Here Safad is drawn in Thuluthy calligraphy script, with a small modification by the artist. Safad, in Arabic, is made up of three letters: ص ف د. The artist separated the first letter (saad) from the second and third letter. The colors were chosen based on the city, which resonates with history, agriculture, and tranquility.
