Al-Ard Canvas Print
Gorgeous calligraphy canvas print by Nawaf Soliman as part of the Cities in the Heart exhibit.
Numbered giclée on wood-stretched canvas
This painting was made on the occasion of Palestinian Land Day, which was created and named by the late Palestinian poet Tawfiq Ziyad in memorial with the six Palestinians who were murdered on March 30th, 1976 by Israeli forces and in solidarity with all Palestinians who were, and are still, attached to their land.
This work was inspired by a poem by Ghassan Zaqtan, a Palestinian writer. The letters of the word "earth", which the poet says, "age above the chest of the earth," were drawn in the style of sponge pen, and parts of the poem were written in simple Andalusian calligraphy style. Earth and the land (Al-Ard in Arabic) refers to the homelands of people.
